WHO ARE WE? |

We are a multi cultural, multi national group of friends
who share one thing in common: Our favorite hobby is to eat
and our second favorite hobby is to talk about where to eat! |

WHAT IS FOOBAI? |

We started foobai in 2004 because several times a week,
and sometimes several times a day, we found ourselves wondering
“where should I go for food or for drinks?” As we talked with
our friends globally, we realized that many cultures from
around the world share the common trait that socializing among
family and friends often occurs around good food and drink.
So whether in Barcelona, Boston, Beijing or Buenos Aries,
good food and drink is the centerpiece for stimulating conversation,
rich friendships and a strong community.
In Chinese, foobai means “100 blessings.” This meaning captures
the essence of this website because we believe that the shared
experience of “going out” with friends and family strengthens
our ties and blesses our lives.

WHY FOOBAI? |

We created foobai to foster among our friends a community
experience centered around the topic of good food and drink.
At the time, we did not find other websites that we could
use to accurately search and rate restaurants and bars in
Beijing and San Francisco. Most other offline or online sources
are biased by an editor or are unduely influenced by the restaurants
themselves. The information out there was neither reliable
nor fresh.
Our objective is to allow our friends and family to unfettered
access to read as well as write reviews of any establishment.
We would then rate each other’s reviews in a respectful and
honest manner and in the process discover people in the community
with similar tastes. The more a user reviews restaurants or
rates other reviews, the more effective this website will
be at serving them. Our underlying principle is that the community
should determine which restaurants or establishments are highlighted
for both positive and negative feedback.

HOW TO FOOBAI? |

Step 1: Search for restaurants (or bars, hotels, movies,
etc.) in your area based on your interests. Read a review
of this establishment written by other users, and select your
restaurant based on what your fellow users have told you about
it.
Step 2: After you have had a chance to go to this establishment,
rate the review that you read. Do you agree with the review?
Do you disagree?
Step 3: Write your own review of the establishment. Tell other
users what you thought.
Step 4: In the future, use foobai to initiate a party or to
join a party. Meet new people in the community that share
a common taste for food and drink.
